Retail Sales Associate

OVERVIEW

The Downtown Detroit Partnership is seeking enthusiastic and customer-focused Sales Associates for a seasonal retail position. This role helps create a welcoming experience for visitors while supporting retail operations that generate revenue to sustain Detroit’s downtown parks. This is an hourly non-exempt position and has no direct reports.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·       Provide friendly, informative, and welcoming customer service to visitors  

·       Process transactions using the point-of-sale system (training provided)

·       Maintain knowledge of products to effectively answer customer questions

·       Maintain accurate cash handling procedures 

·       Restock merchandise and maintain organized visually appealing product displays

·       Keep the retail space clean, and organized

·       Assist with store opening and closing procedures 

·       Support seasonal merchandising and promotions 

·       Receive and organize shipments

·       Assist with inventory counts, pricing, and tagging

·       Support basic point-of-sale and equipment troubleshooting

·       Collaborate with staff to support activations and events

·       Assist during peak times, including festivals and large-scale events

QUALIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPENTENCIES

·       High school diploma or GED 

·       Candidates must be 18+ years or older 

·       Strong customer service and communication skills  

·       Positive attitude and ability to work in fast paced environment 

·       Basic math skills and experience with point-of-sale systems

·       Prior retail or hospitality experience preferred

·       Ability to work well within a team environment

·       Reliable and able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays

·       Willingness to demonstrate commitment to DDP’s mission, vision, and core values

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

·       Ability to stand for extended periods 

·       Ability to lift and move merchandise and supplies – up to 50 pounds

·       Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

SCHEDULE

·       Seasonal operations run May – October and November – December, with retail hours from 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Sales        Associates are scheduled before opening and after closing for setup and end-of-day responsibilities, with typical shifts between 11:00 AM – 8:30 PM. (Subject to change)

·       Sales Associates must be available to work a minimum of 19 hours per week Thursday-Sunday. (varies seasonally)

COMPENSATION

·       Part-time, non-exempt

·       $20 per hour
